BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MONTH - PREVENTATIVE MEDICAL PROCEDURES - TopicsExpress

BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MONTH - PREVENTATIVE MEDICAL PROCEDURES – PART II This is the continuation of my FB Post from last night. TEN HOURS LATER – June 6, 2014 It was unusual. Our telephone rang at 8:05 AM Wednesday. Michael was sleeping in after his colonoscopy, the previous day. I reached for the handset and noticed the caller ID, it said, Providence Hospital. I answered wondering why they were calling so early and for what purpose. My first thought, something was wrong with my father Kenny, and then my son Alexander, daughter-in-law Jamie, and granddaughters, Nicole and Roslyn. Instead, the woman on the other end was asking for me. If you recall, on Tuesday, I had a mammogram and DEXA Scan. This call was Ten Hours after my FB post that evening, PREVENTATIVE MEDICAL PROCEDURES. Calling from the Hospital Breast Center, in a serious tone, she said we want to see you right away. Surprised, I asked how far they were booking out. She replied, “We want to see you right away and will fit you in.” My heart sank as I glanced at my day planner. She continued, “We will fit you in on Friday.” Stress and anxiety. She explained I might have to wait a couple hours, to bring a book and patience. First, they would do another mammogram, and then an ultrasound. Michael, came in to the office while I was on the phone, listening, and saw my grim face. He offered to take me. The appointment, in the middle of the day, I thanked him and said better to stay home and have one of us attending to our business. Mid-morning ferry to the Hospital, I arrived at the Pavilion early, at check in; they confirmed I was willing to wait. In about twenty minutes, Pam called me back. First, she took me to the changing room; it was spa-like. I changed and waited. I glanced at the magazines, nothing caught my attention, took my phone from my purse, checking e-mails. Pam returned and said she was the technician and explained the first procedure, slightly different from the previous mammogram screening, a few days ago. She ran through my history, and began the testing. Pam said it would hurt and to breath…Stop breathing…Breath again. This continued for a while, and she was correct it hurt. Pam explained the process thoroughly, was considerate, and respectful. The scan complete, Pam took me to another waiting room, pleasant, with tea/coffee, and a soothing counter top water feature. I checked out the magazines again, looked at my cell phone, instead, and closed my eyes. A radiologist was checking my mammogram while I sat there. I am unsure how long that was. Pam returned, asked me to follow her. We went back into the hall, walked a bit, and she said, “You can go home now, no need for further testing!” As if an angel, I hugged and thanked her! Pam handed me a piece of paper, reviewed the test results, and to follow up with my doctor. I am grateful for all their care and concern. Many Blessing from Our Nut Farm. October 18, 2014
