BRING YOUR KID TO COURT Over the past several weeks I have - TopicsExpress

BRING YOUR KID TO COURT Over the past several weeks I have represented more that a handful of kids in court. They range in age from 18-24. Thats an age group that I represent A LOT. Lately I have noticed that many of these kids (lets just call them that) come to court without their parents. Now, in fairness to the parents some of them may not be aware of ALL court dates. But, those are NOT the situations that I write about tonight. Im concerned when these kids come to court alone. And while I certainly understand the mindset of you got your self into this mess, now get yourself out of it- these parents hire their kids a lawyer (not a cheap one either) and then they dont show up for what is sometimes (often) the pivotal part of the case. I want to encourage you to bring your kid to court. Make sure they get there on time and that they REALLY understand the consequences of what is happening in court. Its absolutely your kids case. But, lets face it. Often the entire family is effected by the case when a drivers license is suspended, jail time is ordered or other freedoms are restricted. Did you know that a drug conviction, unrelated to driving a car, causes a license suspension? Did you know that certain crimes can disqualify your child for the Hope Scholarship? Now may not be the best time to let Johnny Junior go it alone. Who knows why kids are so impulsive and make some of the choices that they do? Undeveloped brains maybe or some other reason that someone a lot smarter than I am will have to espouse- but parents- dont compound your kids poor choice. Dont hire a lawyer and then check out. I am good at what I do but I am not a substitute for a parent. Bring your kid to court.
