FOR THOSE WHO DIDNT MAKE IT OUT OR FOR ANYONE WHO WANTS TO READ HER SPEECH PLEASE FIND IT BELOW. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Thank you to Everyone for Coming Out Tonight. My name is Brittany Savaille, Im a Mother, Wife, Small Business Owner and I Am and Always Will Be a Community Advocate. I Give Voice to Those Who Either Don’t Have One or Have One That Isn’t Heard. I Have Spent Countless Hours Volunteering in Food Banks, Kitchens, Shelters, Seniors Resident’s and Villages. Those of you in Heart Lake May Remember Me Because I Participated in Rally’s to Stop the Heart Lake High Rises. Or Because I Recently Opened Up My Home as a Donation Centre for Over A Month to Personally Sort and Deliver Relief Packages for the Ardglen Fire Victims. Something that I keep Personally Close to My Heart is a Homelessness Relief Effort call Socks & Sandwiches Which I Spearhead Annually. Above all that, my Greatest Accomplishment is that I’m a Mother to a Wonderful 5 Year Old Boy Who is Currently Enrolled in a PDSB school. I’m Also 14 Year Veteran of the PDSB, I Was Probably Most Recently Privy to the Inner Workings of the PDSB and How they Affected Me as A Student and Now A Parent. While I Have Seen Many Great Initiatives and Changes in the PDSB in Recent Years I Still Have Many Parent’s Telling Me They Have Concerns. Throughout My Campaign Over the Last Couple Months I Have Heard These 9 Main Concerns Numerous Times and Plan to Address Them IF Elected; 1. We Need More Types of Extra Curricular Activities to Keep Students Active & Engaged – With Such A Large Operating Budget – There’s NO REASON FOR CUT BACK’S. Let’s keep $$$ in the Classroom. 2. We Need Improved Parent-Teacher Communication – In most cases this isn’t the Teachers Fault. Why does my Son’s Teacher have to buy a Communication Folder for All Their Student’s Out of Their Pocket? Shouldn’t the board take responsibility for A Parent-Teacher Initiative. 3. While We Do This Let’s Work on Parental Engagement in Student Studies 4. Each Student is Unique and Each Requires Their Own Unique Approach to Learning 5. Increasing EQAO Scores in Peel – Many Parents Like EQAO but Let’s Make it About the Students as Much as it Is About the Teachers. No More Students Stressed for Days to Receive a Hot Dog. 6. With the Evolution of Social Media We Need to Take More Initiatives to Combat Bullying. 7. Teaching Children Financial Literacy and Accountability in School is Something We Need to Do to Ensure Students Leaving High School are Prepared for the Real World. 8. Technology is Evolving and Let’s Ensure Our Children Are Prepared for This~ Increase Technology Partnerships. 9. Finally We Need to Optimize the Budget So We Can Ensure Subsidization of Programs Like the IB Programs for Low Income Families. Everyone with Equal Skills Deserves Equal Opportunities. I’m Therefore asking for YOUR VOTE for many reasons. 1) I believe I have the most recent experience being educated in the PDSB for 14 years, and now as a Parent having a son in the PDSB. 2) I Manage a Home & Business Through Thick & Thin and Will Bring this Philosophy with me to Board 3) I Have Been & Will Continue to Be Your Community Advocate, Your Voice When There Is Issues and Hopefully Before. I Promise if Elected to Respond to Your Concerns Within 24 Hours. Moreover I Will Hold Regular Meet the Trustee Events at All My Schools So Parents Will Know Who I Am and Will Feel Comfortable Addressing Their Concerns With Me.
