BRO RADIO NEWS: Motorists are being warned of an abnormal load that is likely to cause congestion as it is transported from Bridgend to Barry on Sunday 18th May. The very large abnormal load is moving on Sunday 18th May from Vessco on Bridgend Industrial Estate to Barry Docks. The load is scheduled to leave Bridgend at 6am and is expected to take several hours to reach its destination.. The vessel, which is 15’2 wide and 19’1 long and weighs 170 tons, is too high to use the M4 or Cowbridge By Pass to will need to travel through Cowbridge Town Centre. The route for the abnormal load will be; · From Vessco, Bridgend Industrial Estate down A473 to Waterton roundabout in Bridgend; · A48 to Cowbridge; · Travel through contraflow on A48 and head down A4222 Darren Hill; · Travel through Cowbridge town centre; · Continue along A48; · Turn right onto A4226 Five Mile Lane; · Turn left A4050; · Take A4231 on to Barry Docks Link Road; · A4055 on to Ffordd y Mileniwm; · Turn left onto Wimbourne Road. · Arrive at Barry Docks. The load will have a full police escort throughout its journey, however South Wales Police have advised the public to allow extra time for their journey or to avoid the area altogether. A South Wales Police spokesperson said: “Due to the size of this abnormal load it will be slow moving and will have the potential to create congestion”. “It is hoped that by starting early on Sunday that it will cause the least disruption to the travelling public, however, we are asking motorist to please be patient if they come across this load during their journey.”
