BRTV NEWS: posted by arewa 2347031200094 12TH SEPT, 2013 MONGUNO The State Governor Alhaji Kashim Shettima has advised youth volunteers group popularly known as Civilian JTF Monguno local government to always coordinate with security agencies whenever they are going for operation. Governor Kashim Shettima gave the advice while addressing the youths at the outskirt of Monguno where he also informed them that what happened to them touches not only their immediate families, the people of the state but also the country as a whole. He said government is very much concern about the hardship they are passing through hence he has come to commiserate with them and families of those who lost their lives. He said activities of the insurgents have nothing to do with religion and commended the youths for sacrificing their lives to defend their fatherland pointing out that government appreciates their efforts. In appreciation to what they are doing, Governor Kashim Shettima donated two million naira while member representing Monguno, Marte and Nganzai Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives, Barrister Mohammed Tahir Monguno gave one million naira and two Hilux vans in addition to two Hilux vans from the local government council. He similarly directed the Caretaker chairman to bring the list of the youths, so that they will be involved in the Agricultural Transformation Programme of the Government. Governor Kashim Shettima proceeded to the Government lodge Monguno and condoled families of the deceased persons and called on them to take heart as no amount of money can compensate lives lost. He said government will do everything possible to alleviate their predicament, adding that government is aware that most of them could not cultivate their farmlands due to fear of attack by the sect members and therefore assured that food items will be brought to them while those who lost their properties will be assisted. He directed the Caretaker Chairman to constitute committee for the distribution of the items. The Governor said a full Fledge Brigade has come to stay in Monguno with additional Military Personnel and urged them to give their maximum support. He them announced two hundred and fifty thousand naira to each of the families of the deceased while M.T. Monguno in his contribution gave one million naira. Before leaving Monguno Governor Kashim Shettima and his entourage visited skill acquisition centre under construction and commended the contractor for quality work. He was also at the Monguno General Hospital where he gave financial assistance to patients and 406 Peugeot car to the Principal Medical Officer of the hospital Dr. Isa Akinbode as a way of encouragement. NGANZAI Meanwhile, Governor Kashim Shettima has assured the people of Nganzai that all public structures and individual buildings burnt by insurgents will be reconstructed soon. The Governor gave the assurance while commiserating with the people in Gajiram the headquarters of Nganzai local government. He said as a responsive and responsible Governor he will not allow them to continue to suffer adding that what happened in the area affects not only the people of the local government but the country at large. Governor Kashim Shettima informed the people that no amount of money can adequately compensate the victims and announced the donation of two hundred and fifty thousand naira each to the families of those who died during the attack, fifty thousand naira each to those who sustained injuries while one million naira each was given to the families of the three policemen who lost their lives during the incident. While commending the youth volunteer group for their courage and sacrifice, the Governor encouraged them to continue with the good work emphasizing that their effort is commendable and assured that government will assist them in their operation to defend their area and announced the donation of two million naira to them. Barrister Mohammed Tahir Monguno representing Monguno, Nganzai and Marte Federal constituency while acknowledging the performance of the civilian JTF announced one million naira donation for the victims and prayed Allah to avert future occurrence of the ugly incident. Speaking earlier, Caretaker Chairman Nganzai local government council Comrade Ajimi Badu expressed gratitude to the Governor for the concern and assistance. He said the Governor has ordered the purchase of assorted food items for distribution to all victims in addition to what the council has done to alleviate the sufferings of the victims. Governor Kashim Shettima had earlier visited all the burnt structures which included Government Day Secondary School Gajiram, Police Station, General Hospital and Staff Quarters, the Twenty Housing Units, official resident of the Chairman, Government Lodge, Local Government Secretariat and resident of party chairman among others. Governor Kashim Shettima and his entourage had also inspected burnt primary Healthcare Centre in Mairamri in Guzamala local government which was also burnt to ashes by the insurgents. Briefing the Governor on the incident Caretaker Chairman Guzamala local government Alhaji Bukar Amsami said the hospital provides health services to villagers around the area including Monguno and Gajiram among others. The House of Representatives, member Barrister M.T Monguno and the speaker Borno State House of Assembly Alhaji Abdulkarim Lawan both thanked the Governor for the Sympathy visit to their areas which they described as a sign of concern on the plight of their people HOUSE The Federal Road Safety Commission has been urged to reconsider the dateline given to motorists particularly in Borno State on the replacement of the old number plates to new ones by the end of this month. The appeal was contained in a motion today by the member representing Damboa at the State House of Assembly Ayemu Lawan Gwasha. This according to him is for fact that Borno State has suffered a lot in the past two years due to security problem which has crippled almost every sector of the economy of the state hence the need to reconsider the dateline. He called on the State Government to liaise with the Federal Road Safety Commission to find ways of rescheduling the deadline. Co-sponsors of the motion Deige Mohammed of Kala Balge and Sale Mohammed Banga of Kwaya Kusar who spoke in the same vein said the economic strangulation of the state in the past two years has warranted the shifting of the dateline. The member representing Dikwa Mohammed Zakariya who also supported the motion suggested that the deadline should be shifted by two years as against the short notice terminating end of this month. The member representing MMC Abubakar Tijani in his contribution said there is the need for the authority concern to give special consideration to Borno and Yobe States in view of security challenges which still persisted. The speaker Abdulkareem Lawan later read out the resolution of the House calling on the State Government to liaise with the Federal Road Safety Commission to consider shifting the deadline from thirtieth of this month to some other time which was unanimously adopted. Meanwhile the speaker Abdulkareem Lawan has acknowledged receipt by the House of a bill emanating from the executive. The bill is seeking amendment of the Borno Express Cooperation Law 2000. NUJ The State Commissioner of Police Lawal Tanko has called for closer working relationship the Media Practitioners and the Police in crime prevention. He made the call when he paid courtesy visit to the leadership of the Borno State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists in Maiduguri. The CP said the sole responsibility of the police to the society is to protect lives and properties as well as to maintain law and order. He then appealed to public to provide useful information to the police to get rid of criminals in the society. Mr. Tanko noted that the current leadership of Inspector General of Police is to fight corruption and restore the noble ideals of honesty and transparency in the force. In a remark the Police Public Relations Officer ASP Gideon Jibrin said there is the need for the public and the police to collaborate in the fight against crime. Responding, the State Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists Abba Kakami assured the support of journalists to the police in the discharge of their statutory responsibilities. He said the State Council of the Union is the mother umbrella with eight chapels under it. The NUJ Chairman told the Commissioner of Police that the council has ethnics and disciplinary committee which deals with any ethical misconduct by journalists in the state. Meanwhile, the ethics and disciplinary committee has submitted its report to the chairman of the union. The Committee Chairman Mr. David Balami called for implementation of recommendations of the report to serve as deterrent to any erring journalist in future. Responding the NUJ Chairman Alhaji Abba Kakami assured the committee that the union will study the report and issue white paper. He warned that the union will not condone any act of indiscipline from journalists in the state and called on journalists to adhere strictly to their professional code of ethics to avoid embarrassment. Highpoint of the event was presentation of the report by the committee chairman David Balami to the chairman of the union. BOCCIMA The Shehu of Borno Alhaji Abubakar Ibn Umar Garbai El-kanemi has called on members of the business community to work as a team to improve the economic status of the state. Alhaji Abubakar Ibn Umar Garbai El-kanemi made the call when the executive members of the Borno State Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture led by its president Alhaji Mohammed Rijiya paid him a courtesy call in his palace. According to the Shehu Borno has suffered a lot as a result of security challenges and there is every need for them as businessmen and women to assist one another for economic growth. The Shehu thanked them for the visit assuring that as head of federal delegation for this year’s hajj he would do everything possible to project the image of Nigeria and called on Nigerian pilgrims not to take contraband goods to the holy land. Earlier, the president Borno Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture, Alhaji Mohammed Rijiya told the Shehu that they were in the palace to congratulate him over his appointment as this year’s National Amirul Hajj and Chancellor University of Niger Delta in Bayelsa State. Alhaji Mohammed Rijiya also used the forum to condole the Shehu over the death of General Mamman Shuwa and Zanna Dujima of Borno Alhaji Bukar Umoru Mandara. Chairman of Konduga Local Government The Caretaker Chairman of Konduga Local Government Alhaji Abba Ali Abbari has commended Governor Kashim Shettima for introducing Micro Finance Scheme geared towards empowering women and widows in the state. He was speaking at the distribution of micro finance forms to women and widows affected by insurgency. Alhaji Abba Ali Abbari also called on the women to support the newly registered All Progressives Congress (APC) for the overall development of Konduga and the state in general. He said Governor Kashim Shettima is among prominent people who fought for the emergence of APC to bring positive change in the country. The chairman said Governor Kashim Shettima joined the merger party after due consultations with relevant party stakeholders in the state. Alhaji Abba Ali Abbari advised the beneficiaries to properly utilize the ten thousand naira grant. Contributing the Party Chairman Alhaji Bukar Kalli said the merger of political parties to form APC was to present formidable opposition to the ruling PDP in the 2015 general. He said over two thousand widows would benefit in the micro finance scheme and thanked Governor Kashim Shettima and his wife Hajjiya Nana Kashim Shettima for their concern to the plight of the down trodden especially women and children. Highpoint of the occasion was the symbolic presentation of the micro finance forms to the chairman by the Managing Director Micro Finance Bank Hajiya Zainab Kolo for onward distribution to the target beneficiaries. FLOOD: The Hadeja Jama’are Komadugu Yobe Basin Trust Fund has carried out discharge measurements across the basin from 31st August to 7th September. In view of this, the organization in a statement signed by the Administrative Secretary Doctor Hassan H. Bdliya said that there will be possible flooding along the river in Jigawa, Yobe and Borno States in the coming weeks. The statement said the following locations in northern Borno will suffer flooding by the first week of October. They are Damasak, Duji, Gashagar, Talata Gam, Jabullam, Asaga, Daya, Yau, Abadam, Mallamfatori and Diffa in Niger Republic. It could be recalled that communities in these areas suffered huge losses of farm products last year due to flooding and therefore they have been advised to take necessary action to avert similar losses.
