BSU is hosting a peacefully rally around Ferguson. Thursday at 6 at Showalter. The Black Student Union of Indiana University Bloomington would like you to attend a peaceful rally we will be having that is open to all Indiana University students and Bloomington residents on Thursday December 4th, 2014 at Showalter Fountain in the arts square of the campus at 6pm. This rally is both in honor of Michael Brown, as well as a symbol of solidarity with Brown’s family and hundreds of peaceful activist and protestors working for justice nationwide. As you probably know Mike Brown was an 18 year old young black man that was shot multiple times by Officer Darren Wilson on August 9th 2014. Mike Brown with his hands empty and clearly displayed to officer Wilson at the time, was shot and killed, causing many to believe that his murder was unjust and possibly racially motivated. Following the death of Mike Brown many student and civil rights activist began to protest the lack of indictment of Darren Wilson. Many activists in Ferguson, Missouri had assembled peacefully and still met with tear gas and other means of force by local law enforcement. We have been watching coverage of the rallies and protests spanning since this ordeal began over 100 days ago. The grand jury has failed to indict Darren Wilson for any of the shooting death of Michael Brown. This verdict has been internalized by many within the black community and among the allies who support us. In our attempt to support and stand in solidarity with those in Ferguson and all around the world, fighting for the recognition and respect of black life as well as in resistance to a corrupt failing judicial system, we will be hosting this rally and we ask that you come and support us. This rally will be an opportunity for the IU and Bloomington community to peacefully come together and raise awareness and speak on issues of institutionalized racism and systematic injustice. There will be a time during the rally in which individuals will have the opportunity to speak and we encourage you to do so at that time.
