BUBA GALADIMA: A MONKEYS PAW IN A BOTTLE - The description by the Brazilians about the monkey not letting go of the nut in a bottle to get his hand out of the bottle is a brilliant way to describe both greed and stupidity. The bottle is a trap, the nut a bait. With above average intelligence in the animal kingdom, the monkey always smartly slide his hand inside the bottle to reach the nut. Always successful to reach the prize but, repeatedly thats always where his smartness end and where his stupidity begins. With the nut in his hand, its now a fist and always not willing to forego the prize, he hold tight to the nut and remain trapped with the bottle to be caught by the hunter. Such is the predicament of Buba Galadima in a political scenario. Having reached General Buhari through shortcut and made a name by exploiting the patience, humility, tolerance and genetic Fulani simplicity traits of the amiable General, Galadima, now feeling politically mature is trying to create an independent identity outside the enveloping identity of General. Quite absurd! This may be liken to what the Igbos see as the peak of stupidity - a delusional feeling of self value that make a man to challenge his Chi (personal god) to a fighting match. Though GMB is human (a simple one at that) Galadima couldnt be more delusional by his desperation to carve an identity outside the Buhari trademark. Let me not digress. When the news - Buba Galadima Quits Politics - hit the stand in a Daily Trust edition of 23/7/13 it was received with conflicting opinions. Galadima was different things to different people. To some people he was controversy personified, others saw him as an aggressive politician who dont give a damn whose ox is gored in pursuit of his beliefs, still, others saw him as an unscrupulous politician who - again - dont give a damn about the moral cost of his actions when in pursuit of political stardom and its concomitant effect. Even to himself, Buba Galadima was/is and will remain as indefinable a character as his epileptic and fluctuating political behavior. His assorted character made it so difficult to define him accurately but to few, among whom was General Buhari. Perhaps, his military training has equipped GMB with the required instincts to pick out a cheat from thousands of miles away. At a time when many could not understand, and when it mattered the most GMB flashed a red card that sent Galadima spinning into the abyss of political wilderness which climaxed with the above quoted Daily Trust report presented below: National secretary of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), Engr. Buba Galadima, has declared intention to quit active politics. Galadima who spoke to our correspondent in Abuja at the weekend said he is leaving politics to concentrate on his business. The former secretary to The Buhari Organisation (TBO) said he has. contributed his quota to political development in both the CPC and the nation’s democracy saying he is now ready to leave. “I have done my best. I am out of active politics. Every human being is a political animal,” he said. When asked why he is not actively involved in the emerging All Progressives Congress (APC) with his party the CPC , Galadima said he can only register as a member but not engage in active politicking. “I can register as a Nigerian but not in active party politics,” he said. He further explained that he is not quitting from the political stage due to lack of space as he said there is still room for him to participate, adding “I have made my contribution let others take off from where I stopped.” When asked for his next line of actions, he said, “Businessman. Quite a Businessman if I may say. Going by Galadimas BBC interview aired yesterday in which he sounded like a broken gramaphone, who will deny he is making brisk business selling lies and conjectures while painting a conflicting picture of morality. Trust Hausa people for their style of preventing disappointment. They have a saying that help avert tragedies like Galadima. When somebody promise you a robe, look at the one he is wearing. How befitting for Buba Galadimas current (im)moral status. Wearing a tattered gown while promising a kingly robe. Despite his claim of being a Businessman it was obvious, at least from his BBC interview that Galadima is still undergoing the rigorous training of becoming a Businessman especially the Political Businessman line he chose to pursue so late in life. Who else but a novice and trainee Businessman will chose a line to bring down a foe with intent to improve his business when he is a personification of that line? Galadimas bone of contention with General Buhari which he feebly tried to convince the public albeit, unsuccessfully was the laters outburst about not presenting himself for election after the charade that ushered in the present regime. But for his desperation, Galadima should have known that this is an issue discussed severally by many decent and honest Nigerians including General Buhari who put the statement in its proper context and perspective to the satisfaction of majority Nigerians. For Galadima to hang on to it is bad enough for a man of his age and status, to act on it, to say the least its tragic. Buba Galadima more than anyone should know why GMB decided to abandon his well deserved retirement to venture into the murky waters of politics. He spent the best part of his political relationship with GMB telling Nigerians how upright, honest, reliable, patriotic, trustworthy and how passionate about Nigeria GMB is (which Nigerians already knew), something he concluded was the reason why they pressurized GMB to abandon his retirement and contest for Nigerias leadership. So, who is BUBA GALADIMA to assume there are no more Nigerians with these beliefs in General Muhammadu Buhari who could not PRESSURIZE him out of his vow to offer himself for service to a country he once LITERALLY put his life on the line to save from breaking? In any case, Engr. Rotimi Fashakin, while commenting on a thread on Facebook on this issue have this to say: Indeed, it was Buba Galadima that started the campaign at our executive meeting in CPC that GMB is the Partys property and should not have decided not to run again unilaterally. That was the first was the first shot to make GMB have a change of mind on active politicking despite his disbelief in the process (emphasis mine). For Galadima to turn around casting aspersion on the person and character of GMB for listening to voices of reason and logic to say the least, it is dishonorable and annoyingly petty and clearly mischievious. It get worse when the action taken by GMB is generally accepted (and rightly so) as done in good faith and is clearly done for the good of the nation. Still, if as Galadima insinuated in the interview that he is not aware about GMBs intention to contest again because he (GMB) didnt personally call to inform him then his case should be considered a medical case. For him to assume a man of GMBs caliber could be taken this far, this long by paper politicians like him says a lot as to why he had to wait for GMB to flash him red card before he realized the game is over. For him to have to wait for GMB to place a personal call to inform him of his candidature when millions braved distance and road hazards to be part of history by being physically present in Eagle Square to witness the declaration then I can understand why Galadima is an out of business clown. Who else but a clown could be deaf to the voice of the self sponsored millions that supported GMB at his declaration. By the way, does it have to take an expert in special education to teach Galadima how to read what is obvious to the rest of the public? Unless he is senile, it shouldnt be such a going to Mars kind of mental task to understand that he is nowhere near the delusional importance he ascribed to himself on General Buharis scale of importance. Perhaps, that may explain why he didnt receive that call from GMB on which his whole life seem to be hanging which, in turn may explain why his noise like a trapped fly in a bottle. By this unfolding drama, it could easily be seen that Galadima is now out in the cold and swimming in a sea of nemesis. On one hand he painted a glowing picture of himself as a honorable man who believe a mans word is his honor and went ahead to hang GMB on what is not tenable politically, morally or religiously. On the other hand, he was entirely silent about his predicament. This is a man who just last year told the world he is leaving politics for Business but now speaks not only as a politician but a member of the Board of Trustees of a major political Party. With this crass exhibition of mental numbness, its clear why Buba Galadima never made a good politician despite the opportunities offered him by CPC nor could he ever make a good Businessman even in the briefcase category. As I wish him well in his new Business which his interview left no one in doubt that the Buhari name seem to be his only working capital, my honest advice is for him to get out of his cocoon and take a holistic look at who is General Buhari and what he represent to the Nigerian public. Simply ability to do this will save him the psychological trauma of watching General Buhari waxing stronger with every hit of the axe by exhausted comedians like him. An dai ji kunya!
