BUDDY WINS HIS 9th CANADIAN CHAMPIONSHIP DOG DERBY Another clear sunny day greeted the mushers as they lined up for the final leg of the race. All teams got off to clean starts with Bill taking the lead but a few stops in the first 10 miles and he was in 5th. At the 14 mile Dave was leading followed closely by Richard, 45 sec to Bud and Lina 55 seconds to Bill. In the next few miles Bill made a move and passed Bud and Lina. Dave was still leading Richard as they started into the loop, 30 sec to Bill, 55 seconds to Bud and Lina. At Mile 23 Bud and Lina moved to the front when Dave loaded a dog. 30 mile mark Bud was 35 sec up on Lina, 3:15 on Bill, 3:20 on Richard and 4:20 on Dave. Both Bud and Lina increased their lead as they started home. 5 miles to go Bud 1:50 over Lina, 4:30 on Bill and 4:40 on Richard. Buddy wins his 9 th Canadian Dog Derby and his 5th consecutive tying a 47 year old record set by Danny McQueen in1967. It was a cold 3days of racing and everyone was happy it was over. This ends our 2014 race season our best ever. Big thanks to all our sponsors and friends who cheered us on. Deb and I will be in Hawaii in 8 days looking forward to warming up.
