BURR STRIKES PAYDIRT IN THE FOSTERVILLE GOLDMINE FALCON Multiple Victorian 3 Litre Champion Rodney Burr has wheeled his AU Falcon to victory at the VMPA Australian Multiskill Modified Production Series at Timmis Speedway, Mildura looking totally dominant during the final after the leader Chris Hayden pushed his car too hard turning it around half way during the race. Burr’s Fosterville Goldmine Falcon looked like it was on rails winning at a comfortable distance over second placegetter and local Mildura driver Martin Hawson followed by Alexandra young gun Brody Chrystie. Burr started the final from seventh on the grid after racking up two second placings during the heats, Hayden and Hawson both started off the front grid as Hayden dominated throughout his heat races with a trifecta of wins. Hayden got the jump early and Hawson chased him for the early part of the race, Burr came on very strong midway through the race and took the lead and the eventual win after persevering with many restarts during the incident marred final. Minor placings were taken out by Leigh Bourke, Brenton Mills, Wade McCarthy, Zac Swanson, Mark Sheen, Nathan Ehms, Kellie Atkins, Paul Sheen and Graham West. West who usually finishes further up the pointy end of the field was relegated to rear after a car spun to avoid dust from another car and West was deemed to be the cause of the stoppage in the late stages of the final. Heat winners during the night included Hayden with three wins, Hawson with two wins, West with two wins, Wade McCarthy and Nick Hill with a win each. A jubilant Burr, who has shown promise of tremendous speed and ability but has been the victim of misfortune many times this season, attributed his success to his crew and loyal sponsors and mainly his father Phil who attends every race meeting with him. Burr is looking forward to the next Series Round to be held at Avalon Raceway incorporating the perennial Di Watson Memorial as part of this series round and also the upcoming Victorian Championship to be held at Blue Ribbon Raceway, Horsham.
