BUSINESS UPDATEW WITH Orange Over 200 Traders have been relocated from Park yard in Nakivubo which was recently declared illegal, to Usafi markets after KCCA officials said that the structures were too small compared to the number of traders. During a closed door meeting that was held last week, Kampala minister Frank Tumwebaze told the traders to form a 21 member team to negotiate with the investor whom Nakivubo stadium management had to lease the land where the market is located. The infuriated vendors allege that that their market was given to an investor whose identity they could not reveal and have been paying over 25000 shs per month to the Nakivubo Stadium management. President Yoweri Museveni has appealed to the people in Busoga Region to concentrate on household income generating activities that will uplift their standard of living in this era of money economy. The president also called upon the people of Luuka district to emulate the example set by Mr. Kasone, a progressive farmer in the area, so that they are able to graduate out of household poverty. President Museveni told the gathering that the National Agricultural and Advisory Services (NAADS) programme will be restructured so that the money that is saved is injected into the purchase of seedlings and breeding materials that will be distributed to farmers. He pledged Shs 50m each to Luuka Women Group SACCO and to the youth group respectively. British exploration firm Tullow Oil has discovered oil and natural gas deposits even as its Canadian partner Africa Oil also announced that it had discovered gas at another site in northern Kenya. Tullow has discovered 39 metres of net oil pay and 11 metres of net gas pay at Ngamia-2 well which is 1.7 kilometres away from the Ngamia-1, the site of the country’s maiden find in early 2012. Africa Oil, on the other hand, has discovered gas deposits in a 1,000 metre range at the Sala-1 site, adding that it will commence tests to ascertain the exact deposit amount and its viability. British passengers are being disrupted by an air traffic controllers strike in France that has led to flight cancellations. The first day of the industrial action, in a protest against budget cuts, has seen delays at major airports. Services operated by British Airways, Ryanair, Easyjet and Flybe were among those affected. Ryanair said it had been forced to cancel a total of 96 flights on Tuesday, including some services to and from London Stansted, Liverpool, Edinburgh, Dublin and Bristol airports.
