BUYING AND SELLING - Member Tips: If youre new to buying and selling in craft groups, or elsewhere, like your page, you are strongly encouraged to do your research and take the appropriate steps to be a Savvy Seller or Buyer! SELLERS: Until you have cash in hand, the sale isnt a sure thing. If you remove your listing from your Store, from Etsy, or agree to hold it, youre taking the chance the buyer may change their mind, may find themselves unexpectedly unable to make the purchase, or ...? Exercise caution. Taking Payments: What type of payments do you accept? PayPal is probably the safest. Once youve sent an invoice, three days is more than enough time for the shopper to pay, and you have the money in your account. Checks are very risky, especially if you dont know the person. They are not recommended. Post Office Money Orders are usually okay, but forged or fraudulent money orders do turn up and you dont want to be the one stuck with one. I personally dont ship anything until the M.O. has been cleared by my bank. If you have an Etsy or Storenvy Store, you can safely accept credit cards through them, Its a good idea to ask for a non-refundable deposit if youre asked to remove an item from stock or create a custom order. Be sure the deposit is enough to cover your expenses if the customer changes his/her mind. Shipping - USPS is usually cheapest and best for smaller items, FedEx for larger items. GET INSURANCE! I had a large piece broken recently and was very glad it was insured! BUYERS: Ask Questions. Be sure you know what youre getting! Do you have allergies or sensitivities which may affect the item youre considering? Does the item need to be from a pet free or smoke free home? Ask the crafter any important questions you need to know BEFORE purchasing the item. When do you need the item? Are you purchasing a custom-made or significantly altered item from the one pictured? If you are ordering a custom made item, most crafters will ask fora 50% or more non-refundable deposit. This is reasonable since they will be purchasing materials to start work - if you change your mind, they may be stuck with something they cant sell. Be fair to crafters - Dont ask them to hold things for you unless you are ready to make the purchase. You may certainly make a personal wish list of your own, keeping crafter names and items handy, then when you have the money, make the purchase. Payment - See Info for Sellers - PayPal is probably the safest way to pay/receive payment as there are protections for both buyer and seller. Ask for insurance. Sellers/Shoppers - feel free to comment with additional comments and/or tips you feel will be helpful!
