BWALYA WINS DOUBLE AWARDS AS CHUMFWA AND GMM ALSO WIN IM Gilian Bwalya won double awards at the Zambia Service Police Sports award ceremony held at Sandy’s Creation on the 25th January, 2013. Gillan won the best male sports personality and best chess player of the year 2013 awards. In 2013, Bwalya managed to win five (5) local tournaments and one (1) international tournament (Zone 4.3). He also represented Zambia and Africa at the Chess World Cup in Norway. He helped Nkwazi chess club win its maiden league title and was unbeaten during the 2013 chess league. Kelvin Chumfwa settled for the most promising chess player award. Kelvin also had a good 2013 chess season. He managed to win both the Botswana and Zimbabwe Chess open and three (3) local tournaments. Meanwhile, Nkwazi chess club coordinator Maybin Chinama won the best Administrator Award 2013.He guarded Nkwazi chess club to a league title winning all 18 league games and accumulating a record 54 points. Besides winning the league title in 2013, Nkwazi players also won a total of 15 first prize awards, three (3) of which were International awards. Both the Inspector General of Police Ms. Stella M. Libongani and Zambia Police Service National Sports Coordinator Mr. Shapa Wakungu’ma hailed Nkwazi Chess club’s achievements in 11 months of its existence.
