Baby Dont You Do It, became a Marvin Gaye Motown hit in 1964. The Bands 1972 version shared little with the original, thanks to Levon Helms rootsy vocal, a new half-time feel, and Allen Toussaints stabbing horn arrangement. Dont Do It became The Bands final Top 40-charting single. This newly discovered live version, via a sound board mix from a 1971 New Years Eve performance at The Academy of Music, gives the song a whole new shine.
