Baby Jack today: He is still doing well on c-pap, and later - TopicsExpress

Baby Jack today: He is still doing well on c-pap, and later today they will try switching him to high flow oxygen (regular oxygen without pressure just at a higher rate, like 6 liters vs 2 liters). If he can successfully do this then hopefully he can get his swallow eval done early next week. If he passes then he can start bottle feeding that same day. Robyn is hopeful that she may even be able to nurse. We are hoping he passes his swallow test and does well with bottles and nursing so he doesnt have to go home with a feeding tube (a risk of the Norwood surgery is damaging the swallowing reflex, and some babies can get oral aversion after all of this). The fact that he eagerly ate the little amount they allowed him with a bottle prior to surgery is a good sign he will use a bottle after surgery as well as him sucking on his paci so vigorously. He still has a high heart rate, really for no reason. Thats just him theyve figured. He gets it from his mom :) He will be on a med for another month or two to help with that. Thats something Robyn and Kyle can give at home themselves. His lower left lung is still slightly deflated so he is continuing with aggressive chest therapy but he enjoys it :) Robyn and Kyle walked into his room this morning and found him wearing an outfit one of the nurses had put on him :) Such awesome staff at that hospital. :) AND today Jack is one month old :) Happy birthday little guy.
