Back To Port Harcourt, Back To Business! I returned to Port - TopicsExpress

Back To Port Harcourt, Back To Business! I returned to Port Harcourt today with my family after a deserved 10-day holiday in the city of Owerri. I spent 25 years of my life in Owerri and I always feel nostalgic returning to the city. Its been 7 years since I last spent Christmas with my parents. It was such an awesome time. My parents watched their third child get married. I know they will remain alive to see the last two do same. I could feel their joy that morning as they sat through the event. It was a full house. My sister came with her own children. Relatives, young and old, filled every sleeping space in my parents house. From Lagos, Port Harcourt, Owerri and USA they trooped in. The noise created by such human activity is the type that is good to the soul. There was a lot to eat and drink. My wifes culinary expertise came to the fore as delicious dishes were prepared with dexterity. I felt like baby as I was doted on by my siblings and parents. Temporarily, my fatherhood role took a back bench for those days. As we bade goodbye to each batch that travelled back, we wondered when next we would have such a reunion. The children cried as they bade one another goodbye. I do hope it will be anytime soon. Family is the best gift on earth indeed. Needless to say that the holiday put a dent on finances, but a few hundreds of thousands spent cant equate the therapeutic effect of family love we injected in our veins these few days. We did not mind that the naira had been devalued or that APC and PDP locked horns in incessant hurling of invectives. We just enjoyed the jollification. One thing I enjoyed in the part of Owerri we stayed was the good power supply. I return again to Port Harcourt and to the darkness of my area. It is well, my soul says. 2015 has started on a great note. I turned on my system on to see an email inviting me to a show on Nigeria Info 92.3 FM tomorrow at 8 p.m. I will share my thoughts on writing.
