Back from Kyles Special Olympics.....1st race (50mm) = Silver medal! So close in getting the GOLD.....2nd race (200mm) = Kyle was in the lead for the GOLD....Kyles teammate James was racing against him in the heat and James fell with his snowshoes....Kyle completely stops to encourage him, (as he is in the next lane) get up, you can do it James......(they are not allowed to touch during the race so Kyle could not help him up) Kyle ends up in 4th, James in 6th......3rd race (100mm) = Kyles starts running.....and shortly after his snowshoe falls off......Im on the side lines telling him to slip his foot back in and drag the snowshoe (as we teach in practice cuz they have to continue and finish with both snowshoes on or they get disqualified) (they only have a short time to put it back on and Kyle is not able to put his on alone and no one can help him or them at any time while the race is going on) (better to finish in last than not finish at all) his foot goes in and he drags and walks the rest of the race.....at the finish line, spectators and officials chant for Kyle, so many people were yelling his name, it was amazing and he had a smile from ear to ear.....he was the winner in his eyes with all those voices routing for him....It was so cool! Im just proud that he remembered to slip his foot into the snowshoe and drag....as he is not strapped in.........Hes such a good listener! Never mind - one of our athletes fell while running in his heat.....gets up and continues to run......falls again right before the finish line.....he crawls to get over, both snowshoes are in place and wins the Bronze.......So exciting and so rewarding! Great job to Monadnock Valley Patriots!
