Back home from the reception at The Club at Longview in Weddington, NC honoring the family of Kilah Davenport, who was the little girl who suffered at the hands of her step father and eventually passed away this year. Congressman Robert Pittenger presented the family with a pen that was used by President Barack Obama to sign The Kilah Davenport Child Protection Act into federal law, a framed bill that was officially signed and a US flag that actually flew over the White House. Sheriff Cathey spoke to the family and attendees about how his debuties were those who responded, initially, the day Kilah was injured and has remained an integral part of this process of seeking justice against abusers and has been a supporter of the family. AP Press was present, local and regional newspapers were represented, television stations such as FOX, WSOC, WCCB and more filmed the reception and presentations. Many officials from the city of Charlotte and the Mayors office were represented. Rock musician, Trey Healy, flew in from Nashville, Tennessee to meet with the family and debut The Kilah Show song (co written with Dwayne Moore and Terry Alford Gage). Additional senators and representatives from local and state levels shared their sentiments and how excited they were that laws were being changed in cases of child abuse. David Vandenberg was in attendance as well, to photograph the event. Prevo Rodgers Jr and his wife, Lisa M Rodgers, as well as Emily Crystal Joy joined in the ceremonies and met with the family and congressional leaders. Emily Crystal Joy presented Leslie Jervis Davenport and Kirbi with a teddy bear bearing a purple ribbon that was used in memory of Kilah at the No More Lies & Bruises the day she died, when a benefit to raise money for those affected by domestic violence was scheduled that same day. Emily Crystal Joy lost her daughter, Emily-Anna Asbill , recently due to domestic violence. Trey Healy will be performing in Nashville on August 15th and include the Kilah Show song in his concert. The family, as well as other noted friends, supporters and news media, will be in attendance for this event and photographers will document the event. Tonight was emotional and very moving and I am honored to be a part of this by taking a stand against child abuse and making sure that those who abuse children are prosecuted to the FULL extent of the law. I am so glad I got to spend time with Kilah before she passed and in meeting her, I have realized that GOD used her life to make a HUGE difference. To state one of her sayings I love you BIG......
