Back in 1988: Rebutted as a sinister foray into Right Wing - TopicsExpress

Back in 1988: Rebutted as a sinister foray into Right Wing xenophobic ideology for Mozza by some British Asian youth and critics and embraced by others as a brave attempt to reflect the confused feelings and opprobrium heaped upon the protagonist of aforementioned song - and others like him - rather than the political views of the singer/songwriter. As ever satire can be direct or subtle yet the fluidity of personal interpretations is itself to be embraced as the beauty of art. Hermeneutics is imbued with power and domination. We live in a world where we make up our own minds. Only religious fundamentalists and the political extremists want everything to be binary opposites and the world carved into moral monochrome. I love his song because it paints a colourful yet confused picture of Britain which not only resonates with me on a personal level but also remains somewhat prophetic 27 years on.
