Back in November I rescued this gorgeous dog named Blitz from being euthanized by people who very clearly did not understand the language of dogs. Was this a dog who had some issues? Of course; dont they all? Was this a dog who needed to die for them? Absolutely not! This is a dog who simply needed someone to advocate on his behalf! Its funny, during Blitzs rescue, I was made to feel as though I was a piece of shit who had no idea what I was talking about or doing when it comes to dogs. I was challenged and belittled by multiple people who just couldnt understand why I wanted to save this dog and why I couldnt just help an easier one... so let me tell you why. When I met Blitz, the only thing I saw in his eyes was fear; it broke my heart. When I attempted to interact with him, he actively averted eye contact and growled at me. When he did this to another trainer, she suggested euthanizing; I kept working! In no time, I was handling him, doing obedience, and forming a bond. I had proven to Blitz that he could trust me, and he was proving to me every single day that he had something very special inside of him. What were his issues? Simply a fear while meeting strangers. So, after a very shaky yet successful rescue mission, Blitz came home with me, where, with the help of some very amazing people, he began his rehabilitation. We are no where near done our work together and have so much training fun to look forward to, but after only a few short weeks, I am happy to give you this amazing update! Blitz comes just about everywhere with me! He has been to multiple family affairs with children as young as 4, and up, and he has never had an issue. He has met countless amounts of dogs, both small and large breed and as young as 8 weeks old, and he is as dog friendly as they come... maybe even friendlier! Sure, so he has been afraid of a couple strangers that he has met and let out a growl or two, but with proper training techniques, every single person has ended their interaction with him on a positive note, doing obedience drills with a happy wagging tail. Blitz has exceptional obedience skills and superb recall, despite the fact that he is only around 1 year old and has a serious case of puppy-brain. He even likes his new vet, even though they poke him with needles and neutered him ;) This right here is the type of dog that I fight for, because once we are finished, he is going to make an AMAZING friend for any home! So despite every single person who tried to tell me that this dog was not worth it, I am HAPPY for the way things worked out and we cant wait to show you what we can do! So Good-bye 2014, and Hello 2015.. we have LOTS of surprises in store for everyone ;)
