Back in the 1980s, the population (mostly indigenous) of El Salvador was being squeezed/victimized by the military on one side, and the communist rebels on the other side. So many mothers and children desperately had to flee this civil war. But in such a small country they had to just leave the country, but to where? Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free. The wretched refuse of your teaming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door! Remember our almost divine Statue of Liberty? Our blessed United States of America was/is the answer to the desperate prayers of oppressed indigenous people around the world. But, unfortunately, most of these deserving desperate mothers and children HAD to come here as illegal-aliens. Some of them had family members established here. But some did not. Can you imagine a desperate Salvadorena MOTHER coming to the United States as an illegal alien trying to establish herself to make a home for her children? She cant speak English, she doesnt have a recognized education, no experience, ... It was not easy! If those refugees were European, Ill bet they would have been much more accepted; you know: with open arms. Racism had raised its UGLY head once more here! But thank GOD for peace in El Salvador now!
