Back in the ancient times and I was a girl, my Dad was a big bad - TopicsExpress

Back in the ancient times and I was a girl, my Dad was a big bad hunter. We had squirrel dogs. We had coon dogs. We had bird dogs. If hunting was not enough, Dad also was a furious fisherman. He was my “ Daniel Boone”. One day his dogs treed a Mom Coon and killed her. Dad as hard as he was still had some kind of soft spot somewhere in there. He came in with a wee baby coon for us to nurse. We used baby bottles and filled them with milk and nursed our baby coon. Being so full of imagination, you can guess what the coon’s name was. Coonie. Well Coonie survived and grew up and slept in the bed with me. Really was a sweet EXCEPT when food was involved. If I wanted an ice cream cone, I BETTER make it two cause I would not get one. I had a collar for Coonie. Not have a lick of sense I would take Coonie to town on a leash and walk through Morgan Lindsey looking. I remember people running from the store as Coonie reared up on her back legs and walked around. Where were my parents? Beats me. Anyway back to my store, Coonie was fun and delight to this little ole country gal until one day she went out side and did not come back. I think the call of the wild was stronger than her love for me. This coon in the sprinkler made me think of her. Other pets I had over the years a baby squirrel, alligator, coon, birds and many many puppies but never a cat. Dad hated cats with a passion. You would have thought I was Judy Queen of the Jungle of Ruston Oh I forgot Coonie liked Chocolate Meringue Pie. My Mom had cooked two pies and set them on the dining room table to cool for a school event. Dad worked as a butcher at Piggy Wiggle. Mom loaded us in the car to go and get him for lunch. Coonie was resting behind the sofa. When we returned, my Coonie had booth “hands” in those pies eating them. Mom was so mad that she got the broom and chased my coon around the house. Ha.
