Back in the day (50s and 60s), southern good ol boys mostly looked like Barney Fife (apologies to dear Don Knotts). They wouldnt have been caught DEAD wearin their hair long or with a flaky-ass beard like sum damn hippie. Then they went through the mullet-with-no-sideburns phase (I thought Billy Ray Achy Breaky Heart Cyrus would NEVER cut that damned thing off.) NOW the good ol boys --down here in Texas, anyhow-- walk around looking like a Duck Dynasty reject --only seedier and with many more tattoos and earrings. Most of em smell like they just got back from a couple weeks in the swamps, too --with 14 inch Bowie knives and/or pistols hanging off their belts. I have no idea why a woman would put up with her man walking around like that.... But I guess thats why Im still living alone down here. I actually bathe and comb my hair --quite frequently. Actually.
