Back in the late 60’s and into the 70’s in Carver Projects - TopicsExpress

Back in the late 60’s and into the 70’s in Carver Projects there was a Marching Group that I was a member of. It was called the Rangers and Rangerettes. It was made up of the neighborhood kids from the projects and the other adjacent neighborhoods. We held our meeting in the short lite colored building facing the tracks in the basement. We learned things. I did not live in Carver, but lived across the tracks on the corner of 100th St. and Park Ave. But growing up I spent days of my younger years and teenage years hanging out and with the marching group. The directors if I remember their names correctly were Bobby and his brother Joey I think? I wish I could remember his first name. But I enjoyed learning how to march in that group. I remember all the summer trips we took and all the parades we had to march in. Tired sore feet, cold and hot days. But it taught me discipline. Marching with the group helped me many years later when I joined the Marines. I was ahead of my fellow recruits when we all were taught how to march in formation. Wish they still had programs like that for kids today…. I turned out ok I think? And so did many others I’m sure because of it. Thank you for keeping me on the right path...
