Back-to-School Allergies The time has come; a new school year is right around the corner. This is an exciting and scary time for kids and parents. It can be extremely worrisome if your child has allergies. There are some allergy and asthma triggers that can be found in most schools. Although you cannot remove all of the triggers before your child begins school there are some things that you can do to help you and your child be prepared. First, go to the school and identify potential triggers that could harm your child. Talk to your child’s teachers and the schools administration and explain the triggers and symptoms that your child could show. Then if your child’s allergies are extreme, explain the treatments step by step. Some main allergens to look out for in a school are dog and cat hair. This could be brought in by other students and can be collected in carpet and furniture. Also, mold could be present in the classroom from outside elements, water damage, or inside houseplants. Another common allergy found in schools is food allergies. Some of the most common are peanuts, eggs, milk, soy, wheat, and tree nuts. Being prepared and educating others and your child about the triggers and symptoms is one of the best ways to stay safe while heading back to school.
