Back when I was a sprinter, these jumps were often included in my training to develop my explosive power, speed and agility which were vital for leaping out of the starting blocks and driving through the first half of a sprint. The Borzov jumps, as they are called, have quite a few variations and they were used by the great Valery Borzov, the Russian sprinter who won the 1972 Olympic gold for his country in the 100 meters. Nowadays I perform this exercise on leg day as it hits most leg muscles and is very pump friendly. It particularly defines the separation between glutes and hamstrings which is usually associated with sprinters and gymnasts and which often bodybuilders seem to lack. So if youve ever checked out the behind of a sprinter, you might also want to introduce Borzov jumps to your training ;)
