Backyard Beekeeping is catching on in the DC-area. Sarah Bergkuist, Senior Project Manager at the DC-area branch office, witnessed this new trend in person recently! Her friends Jill and Jeff are the proud new keepers of two custom-build vertical hive stands with about 20,000 honeybees in their Del Ray backyard. They’ll eventually be filled with combs, and in about 18 months, lots and lots of honey. Farmers Heidi and Stefano of azure b delivered them in person from their apiary in Maryland. Says Sarah, “It was a pretty interesting experience. There were a lot of bees swarming around but not really any stings. I can’t wait to see them make honey!”.
