Bacupari-anao, Pacura, Baurizinho, Bacoropary, Camboriu, or Guapomo (Garcinia brasiliensis; formerly Rheedia gardneriana, R. brasiliensis, R. Laterifolia) is native to Brazil, Paraguay and northern Argentina, only occasionally cultivated, but regionally a common wild harvest for peasants selling fruits at roadsides. Its mainly consumed fresh but also used for jellies and beverages, or to mix with ground meat for sweetmeats. The tree is a handsome ornamental offered to gardeners without cold winters. Small (around one inch) oval or oblong fruit, either yellow or orange, sometimes nippled, is squeezed laterally to pop open the orange shell revealing white pulp around one or two seed. The transluscent white pulp pulp ranges from sweet to tart and theres not a lot of it around the seeds. The seeds are sometimes pressed for oil to use on small wounds externally, or internally for a narcotic effect similar to that of nicotine. The root bark is also regarded as medicinal.
