Bad News Prayers. This one is for my brother Danny Currie. About fifteen or sixteen years ago we made that trip to Our Lady of Loretto for Christmas Mass. Every Christmas the church is absolutely packed. Every year I can remember the back of church would be standing room only for about forty people and even more would be in the lobby entrance just outside the doors. The option to stand always appealed to us so wed plan on arriving at the right time to be unlucky to not find a seat but oh so lucky to have standing room only. But this particular mass was a little different and started like this. Excuse me, would everyone in the back please leave as to not disturb the rest of us, says the priest. Jesus Christ (dont forget I gave up Catholicism for Lent years ago) what did he just say? We were floored by it. Fifty or Sixty of us were being asked to leave Christmas Mass. The look on everyones faces was of bewilderment. The entire congregation turned around and was staring at all of us obviously feeling akward. My parents were floored. My sisters, brother and I were thrilled. Being somewhat vocal of a person and just slightly of a smart ass I promptly called out a chant that would make the crowd at the Astrodome proud.. let them pray... Danny caught on quickly and both of us chanted, let them pray, let them pray... I think we got to the fourth one before my Dad gave us that look of one more and this will be a funeral .... holy canoli I freaking laugh to this day thinking about it. I saw my brother today and it was great.. we shall never go so long without laughing together again. Cheers Danny!!
