Bailey and I enjoyed our walk this morning. I increased it by one - TopicsExpress

Bailey and I enjoyed our walk this morning. I increased it by one half mile to soak in more of Gods creations. Met some new friends walking and chatted for a few minutes. They seemed to be nice people. You know, if we take the time to stop and talk with people, we find that most of them are friendly and nice. This morning I am reposting an article that I wrote back in April. I hope you enjoy it. Was It a Fish or Was It a Whale? There have been a lot of discussions on this subject. The Bible says that Jonah was swallowed by a great fish, but many people argue that, to swallow something as large as a man, it had to be a whale. You remember the story. God commanded Jonah to go to Nineveh and warn the people to change their ways, or, He was going to deal with them harshly. Jonah took off running in the opposite direction. He got on a boat and hid in the bottom of it. After awhile, a big storm came up and was about to destroy the boat. After throwing out all of their cargo and pleading with their gods to save them, they went down and got Jonah. It was decided that Jonah was the reason for their danger, so Jonah said to toss him into the sea. That is when it happened. HE WAS SWALLOWED. But, by WHAT? It doesnt really matter whether it was a fish or a whale. It is WHY he was swallowed that matters. He was swallowed because he ignored what God told him to do and went about doing what he wanted. Well, after spending 3 days and 3 nights in the belly of the fish, he repented and decided to do what God told him. Then the fish spit him out and Jonah went to Nineveh as God had told him to do. Isnt that what a lot of us do? God tells us to follow after Him and to obey Him, yet we ignore Him and run off doing what we want and disregard His commands. That is when the storms come into our lives and threaten to destroy us. It is only after we repent and follow after Jesus will those storms turn to clear skies and sunshine. Yes, there will be clouds come into our lives, but, as long as we put our trust in Him we can weather the storms.
