Baldness and hair-loss. Experimentally minoxidil lotion and biotin - TopicsExpress

Baldness and hair-loss. Experimentally minoxidil lotion and biotin vitamin supplements are being used to treat and cure male pattern baldness, called androgenic alopecia and hair loss in both men and women with or without success depending on person to person cases. But, very recently in 2012, a research paper indicates a causal link between elevated levels of localized prostaglandin D2 (PGD2) and hair growth inhibition. On Mar. 21, 2012 the Science Daily published the following: "Researchers from the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania have identified an abnormal amount a protein called Prostaglandin D2 in the bald scalp of men with male pattern baldness, a discovery that may lead directly to new treatments for the most common cause of hair loss in men". Full article will be found in the following link: sciencedaily/releases/2012/03/120321143013.htm The result was also published in India and U.K. Some forums are searching for PGD2 inhibitor medicine or supplement. It may come in the market very soon. However, Fish Oil/Krill Oil with high content of Omega3 fatty acid as well as simple NSAID like Aspirin, Ibuprofen, Naproxen or even Paracetamol (Acetaminophen or Tylenol in USA) work as per some website information. Controlling COX-2 enzyme inhibits PGD2. Aspirin, Ibuprofen and Naproxen inhibits both COX-1 ( essential for stomach and intestine lining) and COX-2 enzymes and sometimes causes stomach ulcer. But simple Paracetamol (Acetaminophen or Tylenol in USA) is a selective inhibitor of COX-2 enzyme only and good to reduce PGD2; but not good for weak liver. Also, some are saying that inhibiting PGD2 too much is not good for bone health. However, taking fish oil/ Krill oil/ Omega3/ flaxseed meal/ Flaxseed oil is always good for health, heart, cholesterol, etc., except we should not take it during healing of any wound, cut or scrape and during surgery as it may act as blood thinner.
