Ballam’s condition, after days of uncertainty, is steadily improving. He is still at the hospital undergoing tests, receiving medication, and general care but overall we are very pleased with how he is improving! Our hearts are overjoyed! Ballam has struggled not only with NS but also with his family at home. In the past, Ballam’s dad and stepmother denied Ballam food at home. They excluded him from the family because of his condition and the treatment he was receiving at the Care Center. Even after countless meetings with our staff who tried to explain his condition and to convince the father to treat him equally, there was still no change. This has always been devastating to Ballam. Amazingly, with a beautiful change of heart, Ballam’s father has been selflessly caring for Ballam at the hospital. Out of love, Ballams father is cooking for him, bathing him, and making sure he is taking his medication. This is reason to celebrate! Not only are our children battling this horrible disease but must face the stigma placed on them by their families and friends. This act of love by Ballam’s father gives us hope that things can change, and soon these children will get the respect and dignity they deserve.
