Balsa Mindanaos indigenous rights organizer & climate justice activist May Vargas was in Seattle presenting her talk, Land is Life: Reflections on Climate Change from the Global South. May was just in New York City this past week as part of the World Council of Churches delegation to the World Conference on Indigenous Peoples (WCIP) and the Peoples Climate Justice March. Her presentation was a report back from New York, as well as BALSAs ongoing efforts to organize in the typhoon-affected areas of the Philippines. Gabriela Seattle opened the talk with this cultural performance, The River Song by Diskarte Namin.
