Band/Act I was given by Adam Adam Devine: Dinosaur Jr Do I like them: Does the pope shit in the woods. Hells yeah. They are one of the defining bands of my life honestly. I decided long ago that The Lung would be my funeral song. Not Purple Rain? No. The Lung. Have I seen them live? Several times. In different incarnations. J Mascis is certainly the heart of the band, but Lou Barlow is definitely the soul. I prefer the band Dinosaur Jr with Lou in it. I have never enjoyed the obligatory inclusion of the hits such as Freak Scene or Feel the Pain in a live set with Lou as he was never part of that particular band. I tend to tune out during those. Not that I dont love that middle period of Dinosaur Jr, albeit a bit patchy, I still love it. Having said all that, my favorite album would have to be 1997s Hand it Over. Their last album. Completely overlooked and forgotten. I stumbled upon it in 2000 in a used record shop in New Zealand. Its pretty much a J Mascis solo record with an enormous major label budget from Warner Bros and he spent every penny. Its like he was let loose in that studio where Jellyfish recorded Spilt Milk and used every instrument he could find in the mix. Its a monster of an album that most people have never heard. (Which is probably why I got away with blatantly ripping off the song Alone when my band in the 00s released our first single). How did you hear about the band/artist? Being a flappy indie kid in Cork I would frequent Sir Henrys Night Club. It was a dark place with church benches and a haven for indie kids and cure heads who hid away among the decibels of Sonic Youth et al, in the days before rave music took over and the chairs and tables were gradually cleared to make room for people to dance as the 90s crept in. It was definitely there where I heard Dinosaur Jr for the first time. And in all honesty, it was probably the hit. Like and I will give you an artist/band...
