Band I was given: The Beatles Do I like them? Yes, I like them. Although it is quite difficult to prove, I don’t feel like I am a “bandwagon” fan who likes them only because other people do. I like them for a few reasons. 1) It is something that my “best friend in the space-time continuum”, Robert Rodman and I have shared since I was in middle school. It’s always been neat to see Rob find out what Beatles thing he was into lately. It could have been an album he found, a Beatles shirt he bought that he thought was cool, or something neat he discovered about their colorful past. 2) I also like them because of their humanity. Sure, they may have wanted some money out of it, they may have started out trying to compete with established artists, but eventually, they became the sum of their influences and started something new. Also, they weren’t perfect. They all had drug issues at some point, John had family issues, George started when he was just entering manhood, Ringo was asked to “get on the mystery tour” probably not knowing what he was getting into. Although they had a rough time, some worse than others, they managed to come out of it with the life experience of being the most wanted band on earth and took it with them into their own lives. Favorite song(s): Eleanor Rigby, Here Comes the Sun, Lady Madonna, Let it Be, Maxwell’s Silver Hammer, Paperback Writer, Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, and When I’m 64 Have I seen them in concert? Nope, I’m 43 years too late. However, I hope to see Paul McCartney while he’s still going strong.
