Bangkal Bullies: Our Credo, Our History The Bangkal Bullies is a band of pitbull owners and enthusiasts in Bangkal a community in south Davao City. It is an informal group formed more for friendship and sharing tips and ideas on how to promote and nurture the American Pitbull Terrier breed which has been in the past decade has received several criticisms and advocacies against the breed. The Bangkal Bullies is not just a group that socializes pitbulls to other pitbulls in the neighborhood it also builds friendship and camaraderie among peoples that share the same bond –the bond between man and his dogs. Our group was formed in the last quarter of 2008 headed by an avid pitbullero, Arman Ray DUnderDog Kennel Ancla. He wanted to gather all owners of pitbulls and bullies in the vicinity of Central Park Subdivision and Kadayawan Homes all within the Bangkal area of barangay Talomo, Davao City. He would move around the subdivision on bicycle to look for houses with pitbulls and bullies and he would invite them to attend the dog gathering at the Lourdes Church in Central Park subdivision. After a few months, a core of pitbulleros started to come to these gatherings and share their experiences in raising this breed of dog. Using the power of the Internet forums, Arman also started an online community in Davaosale, Pets section that calls for pitbulleros in Bangkal to participate in the regular Sunday gatherings. That online forum led to more and more people attending our gatherings on Sunday. From a few 5 members, our group after almost 4 years, have grown to about 20 members. Many of our members are mostly within the Talomo district but we do have members outside these areas and even as far as Cagayan de Oro City and San Francisco, Agusan de Sur. We like the idea of a loose organization rather than make it a formal group. Being informal and loose means we will be having more fun that is not limited by formal boundaries. We will be spending more time sharing stories and ideas about our dogs and the other dogs in the group. Informal groups will not have problems over money because it is more fun to do chipping in for some of the group’s activities. Contribute when able is the key word because we value not the material contribution but the personal participation of the owner and the dog that is more important. Who knows when in due time we might become a formal incorporated club or kennel. But that is the least of the priority now. We would like to describe our group as a barkadahan than a formal kennel organization. We based our solid friendships on our genuine love and passion for the breed. Our activities not only revolve around our dogs but also around our families who have shared also the same passion as ours. The Bangkal Bullies is instrumental in creating the Mindanao Pitbull Terrier Club (MPTC), which is becoming wide confederation of kennel groups in Mindanao. This is after the time when the Bangkal Bullies mostly called as “PPC Boys of Davao” felt they have been left behind by PPC thus in order to revive the pitbull and bully scene in Davao we must create a new organization affiliated with the National Pitbull Terrier Club and Philippine Bully League. To date, the Bangkal Bullies is still intact and slowly expanding. We are not after the number of members but we are after for trustworthy members whom we can depend on and who can best represent the genuine lover of the pitbull and bully breeds.
