Bangkok Trip Journal #3: The works of heaven as interventions unfold I was awakened by the movement of bed being wheeled across hallways and found I was brought to the X-ray room. I struggled to hold the pain in my arms as I was maneuvered for bone X-ray of my right arm. Then I was wheeled to the elevator as it move and saw on the panel 10th floor and the elevator door opened again. Wheeled outside, I saw a lighted hallway and a nursing station. And then wheeled inside a room, reaching near the bed, again I was crying in pain because of the maneuver of transferring from the ER bed to my rooms patient bed. Whew! Finally, I am in a bed, I saw on the clock of the wall 5:30, I slept. I was awakened by unfamiliar voices and faces apan ga binisaya, I was happy for the 1st sign of relief . I was so happy because these people were my answered prayers. I check the time, it was 10:00. They introduced themselves as Vicky Cornelio from Tanjay who is married to Krisadaton Ku, a Thai. They were the first responders to Bobots call for help. Vicky informed me not to worry because they have checked the hospital and the taxi drivers insurance will be taking care of my hospital bills, my 2nd sign of relief. A doctor came in and managed to explained to me in English of my medical case: Doctors diagnosis: Right humerus bone broken in the mid-shaft, with lower part broken with 2 fragments. Radial nerve damaged due to impact but still in-tact. All systems are good. Medical intervention: Surgery to fix the bone using metal in-plant to assist bone regeneration. Physical therapy as post-op intervention to repair radial nerve and for functioning of right arm. At 2 pm, I was wheeled to the operating room while Ate V ( short for Vicky) remained in the room as per docs advice that somebody must be around during the recovery from the operating room. I was processed for the surgery until i went to sleep as effect of the anesthesia . The next thing happened, I was awakened so I can be transferred to my bed. I was already back in my room with surgery successfully done on me, my 3rd sign of relief. Ate V prepared food, as per docs advice, because I needed to eat something after 20 hrs. of no food before taking the medications. Gina a.k.a. Zimply Zee, a Pinay English teacher working in Thailand, was the 1st responder from Dr. Marcials call, assisted Ate V. My Oct. 8, Wednesday, ended with me in deep, painless slumber. Since then, my condition showed positive good results. And in the morning of Friday, Oct. 10, the orthopedic surgeon came and removed the metal cast on my right arm and replaced it with a sling. A real big sign of relief on my birthday. Later that night, Gina bought street food while Ate V brought her home made Chines fried rice. I celebrated my 47 b-day on Oct. 10, at the 10th floor, room 1027. Last Oct. 12, my PT session started and since then, my recovery from pain and function is improving until today. I am told that the insurance has arranged for my discharged today, Oct. 17, and as to my next itinerary, I still dont know yet. I am awaiting for my new plane ticket back to the Philippines. My ultimate realization from this experience is that no matter what cautions one make, accident, no matter how we dont like and want it to happened, is bound to happened. The only assuring fact is that God is always with us and through the intercession of Mama Mary, redemption is always available at hand. Accident, as it is bound to happened, is hated/unwanted not just because of the uncertainty physical injury it brings, but more so of the financial dilemma it can cause. We dont plan for accidents to happened, right? And thats where the concept of insurance plays a major role in our lives.
