Banker Docked For Alleged Breach Of Trust And Cheating — May 21, 2014 The police on Wednesday arraigned a banker, Geoffrey Joachim, in a Wuse Zone 2 Senior Magistrates’ Court, Abuja, for criminal breach of trust and cheating. Joachim, 27, who resides at Plot 351 FHA Karu Site, Abuja, was alleged to have collected N1.354,620 million from four retirees to perfect their retirement pension which he never did. The prosecutor, Sgt. Abdullahi Adamu, said Umar Abdulkareem of No. 10 Nuriala Mohammed Way, R/West Kaduna, and three others lodged a report against the accused at the police station on May 16. Adamu said that sometime in 2013 the complainants gave Joachim N1, 354, 620 to help them perfect their retirement pension. The prosecutor said the accused neither did the work nor returned the money, adding that the offence contravened the provisions of sections 322 and 312 of the Penal Code. If convicted, the accused could be given a jail term which may extend to 22 years or fine, or both. The accused pleaded guilty to the allegations, and promised to return the money before any adjourned date. The magistrate, Mr Christopher Oba, admitted him to bail in the sum of N500, 000 and a surety in like sum. He said the surety must be someone with reliable source of livelihood, and be resident within the jurisdiction of the court with a traceable residential address. He adjourned the matter until June 30 for hearing
