Banner carrier post: Geneva Fire responded to a possible fire at Temple Beth-El on South Main Street this evening. Someone in the building called the fire into the Geneva 911 center. Upon us arriving, I noticed a woman shaking and looking distressed. Immediately, I went to her and asked her if she was feeling okay. Her response: Im frightened, and upset that this had to happen on the holiest day of the year for us! But at the same time, Im shaking with disbelief at how fast you all got here! And in force! I just cant believe it! Where did you all come from so quickly?! She kept telling me she had a bad dream last night that the temple had caught fire and to see it almost happen today had her understandably emotional. I couldnt very well leave this woman, so I asked the firefighters to drop their PITs in the yard and I would just keep track that way. It was then that we heard one of the chiefs ask if the call had come into the Citys 911 or the Countys 911. The dispatcher responded, The Citys 911. ***HERES THE KICKER!!*** The fire department responded immediately due to the direct call to the Citys 911 center. The trucks had already on scene laying hoses when the County notified us that there was a possible fire at the temple. This was almost a full 6 minutes AFTER the original call came in. A fire doubles in size every 30-45 seconds. Can you just imagine................. This was discovered to be a small electrical fire which required only simple intervention for us. But, hey, according to some members on City Council, that 6 minute gap is perfectly okay........ Think the members of Temple Beth-El will believe that 6 minute gap is perfectly okay? PS- Councilman Jason Hagerman has already voiced his intent to vote down the Geneva 911 Ceneter. Im just sayin .............
