Barangay Captain Jose Peñas Asuro and these 3 teachers of Balongay Elementary School are all alumni of the same school. They said there hasnt been a new school building which has been constructed in the campus since they graduated there from grade school. But old classrooms are the least of their worries, even if they have leaking roofs and broken windows. They said they have enough and can live with them for now. Their main problem is that several times a month, the entire school grounds become flooded when the tide is unusually high. Classes are disrupted each time. And because the water is from the sea and has very high salt content, their tables and chairs do not last long and they cannot grow plants in their garden. There have been several attempts to elevate the grounds but they still have not been spared. The school is also being used as an evacuation center during disasters and because flood waters really get very high, they feel that two-story school buildings will benefit not only the students but the entire community, as well.
