Barotse Heritage Site to Enter World Heritage Site List - Lindunda Wamunyimas Views The editor, Barotse Post, Mongu, Greetings to you all. Thanks a lot for your article on the subject referred above. Please find herein my submission regarding the topic. First and foremost I still find this insolence of Zambia indeed and quite nerve-wracking. As things stand now it is useless for Zambia to talk about the matter on our behalf because of the following observations: 1. Barotseland is already an independent sovereign state only waiting to finally politically disengage from Zambia (Northern Rhodesia). The persistent moves by Zambia to encroach our territoriality are both dissident and contemptuous of us. 2. Secondly, why would Zambia admire Barotse now for listing under world heritage sites when the same country does not value nor recognise our heritage as Barotse Kingdom, and even failed to develop the place as per the BA ’64 international treaty? Abrogating the BA ’64 means Zambias negation of every involvement into our own affairs, poor or rich. 3. The interim Barotseland Government should exercise its powers by writing to the UN wing in charge of the mandate to consider halting the matter for listing Barotse under World Heritage sites until the same UN will have resolved the political impasse between Barotseland and Northern Rhodesia. First things first; to us complete independence from Zambia and attaining our true identity is urgent and of paramount importance. 4. Then we can follow up the issue later as a nation, after our independence is completely realized. As for now, what we expect Zambia to do is to engage with our leaders into processes that will help us wean each other from the vestiges of the interdependence that still linger between us so that we live our lives as separate nations fully; following March 2012 Barotse acceptance of the abrogation of the BA ’64 by Northern Rhodesia (Zambia). 5. The BRE and all Barotse loving citizens should not embrace the idea at all in my view. It is just like the Agape account too. It is even surprising that Lozi characters are still being used in the campaign to try and lure us into the obsequiousness game and ill-intentions Zambia has for us. Kozo shangwe mambumbwe a Lyambayi.
