Barrhaven Cricket Club Website: barrhavencricketclub E-mail: barrhavencricketclub@gmail July 31, 2013 Overview of the Weekend On Saturday we traveled to LL1 to play against Canterbury in a Challenge division Game. This was a must win game for us in order to entertain any hope of qualifying for the playoffs. The captain continued his good form with the coin and we elected to bat first. Unfortunately, some very erratic bounce, poor running and a couple of missing batsmen combined to see us dismissed for 76. Canterbury lost 4 wickets in the chase and that saw an end to our finals hope in the Challenge Division. On Sunday we were at home against Cathedral. Both teams needed to win this game to continue the run to the playoffs. With overcast skies and rain in the forecast the captain won the toss and decided to bowl first. Cathedral managed to put up 146 in their 40 overs, losing 7 wickets in the process. After a 30 minute tea break, and just before we were ready to begin the chase the skies opened up. Fortunately the rain stopped before too much time was lost, however the umpires determined the wet grass would get the ball wet and somehow that prevented us from restarting the game. This means we are in a must win situation in the final Citizen game in order to qualify for the playoffs.
