Bartholomew, was another of Jesus Disciples. He was also known as Nathanael in John 21:2, There were together Simon Peter, and Thomas called Didymus, and Nathanael of Cana ( also known as Bartholomew) in Galilee, and the sons of Zebedee, and two other of his disciples. At first he was very sceptical that Jesus Christ was the Messiah, especially coming from Nazareth. In John 1:45-46, scripture tells us: Philip findeth Nathanael, and saith unto him, We have found him, of whom Moses in the law, and the prophets, did write, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph. And Nathanael said unto him, Can there any good thing come out of Nazareth? Philip saith unto him, Come and see. Jesus immediately says to him in John 1:47, Jesus saw Nathanael coming to him, and saith of him, Behold an Israelite indeed, in whom is no guile! In other words, Jesus was letting those around Him know this man was for real, there was no deception or trickery in his life. As the saying goes, What you see, is what you get. When he was assured in his heart that Jesus was the Son of God, Bartholomew was a man of great conviction, well versed in the scriptures, and his devotion to Jesus was undeniable. There is not a lot of information about Bartholemew, but we know he was a man that loved the Lord. As the other disciples, Bartholomew did not understand all that Jesus did or said until after the Master was gone. He reportedly travelled and spread the Gospel of God with Philip. This Man of God suffered greatly for the Kingdom of God, in his death. According to history, Bartholomew was beaten with clubs, flayed (to skin; to strip off the skin from the body) alive, crucified head downward, his body then tied into a sack and thrown into the sea. For believing in Jesus Christ and spreading the Gospel, his body was mutilated.
