Bartonella is a bacteria that can affect dogs and cats. Most typically, we see it in the cat population. Many people know it as "cat scratch fever". Some of the risk factors include: Stray cat origin Shelter, feral or rescue cat origin History or current flea infestation Mult-cat household Living with a Bartonella infected cat. Typical symptoms of Bartonella can be fever, red inflamed gingival tissue, chronic upper respiratory infections and eye ulcers. In the last year we tested 300 cats and 173 of them were positive (58%) We tested 38 healthy cats ( these owners wanted to eliminate the risk of them or a family contracting cat scratch fever). These cats were not showing any symptoms. Of the 38 cats we tested, 20 of them were positive ( 53%).
