Bass player Jim Barr (Portishead, Goldfrapp) on recording the new Get the Blessing Album Lope and Antilope with engineer Tim Allen (Bat for Lashes) and UAs Apollo: We used a Mac and Tims new Apollo, a bunch of the usual mics, and our instruments. We recorded for 3 days, improvising, then re-working some stuff, but we didnt really listen back to much. Tim was recording using tape simulation and some light compression on the way in…which I was a bit scared of at the time. But when we listened back later it was great to hear how warm everything sounded. Good converters obviously, but the processing on the recording path was really key. People seem to like it, and we definitely think it sounds great in no small part to Universal Audio hardware and the plug-ins.
