Batman BATMAN! A dog in need of the right home. My parents - TopicsExpress

Batman BATMAN! A dog in need of the right home. My parents rescued this dog from Hernando County Animal Services off death row. Hes neutered, UTD on shots and about 3-4 years old. He is leash trained, house trained and kennel trained. MY parents have come to realize that they can not provide the right environment and structure for him. They have had him over a year or so now and have done what they could. This is by no means a impulse adopt and drop. They wanted to save a life and they did. Batman needs a home with no cats (which my parents own and have to keep separated). Its not good the cat and not good for him. He is terrified of them but will chase and pursue if they hiss or come at him. He can co-exist with some dogs. He loves to play with my dog when I visit who is only about 25lbs and was fine with my parents beagle who has now passed (old age) but he does not do very well with large breeds or alpha dogs. He loves long walks and would do much better with a person who had a larger fenced in yard so he can exert his energy out. He knows sit, lay, leave it, and in your bed or in your kennel He prefers to sleep in his kennel. Hes very smart and learns quickly but to be honest he does need some work on behavior. He gets a little over excited when playing and paws at you a lot. Sometimes he will jump he has gotten a lot better. He knows to stay down when you put your hand out and smell your legs to greet you instead. This is all the more reason he would do better with someone who can be consistent with him. A better handler who has the time and patience. Hes a smart dog and a quick learner. He has NO food aggression with people but has shown food aggression with other dogs. When monitored I was able to have him take treats and eat side by side with my dog. So again with consistency I think over time he would do better. Batman would do best in a house with no small children because of his size and energy. Unfortunately as of recently he did nip a small child. It was by no means an attack and probably would have been nothing to anyone else but we all know a small nip to a child can be a lot more dangerous and easily break the skin. This is another reason my parents have come to the conclusion that he needs to be with someone more suited for him. They do not want to see him dumped back at animal control and certainly do not believe the dog deserves to be euthanized. Hes just a dog trying to find balance in a home that can not provide that for him. Batman is very loyal and to be honest a great guard dog. On more than one occasion he has proven he will put his life in front of danger for you. I dog sat him at my house before and he chased away two intruders on my property and personally saved me from being attacked by a wild stray dog. He has a lot of great qualities about him so I would hate to see anything happen to him. If you would be interested in meeting batman I would be happy to arrange it. If adopted he will come with all his supplies, leash, food bowls, and his large dog kennel. He is already chipped which we would re-register to his new owner and also his license. I would love to this dog go to a great home, a farm, or a person who would love loyal active companion. Please call 352-593-1030
