Battle: Los Angeles has become one of my go-to background movies. I really enjoy it and its one of the best alien invasion films of the past couple decades. The invaders motivations are never entirely clear. Theres no communication from them, theres never a face-to-face or silly psychic transfer of information. No ultimatum or countdown. They land and proceed to tear us a new one. No magic computer hacking or biological agent saves us. Theres no special human trait they werent prepared for. Its just war. Yes, their technology doesnt seem advanced enough for them to be a spacefaring race, but if it were more advanced thered be no story. I really dig it. A true heir to War of the Worlds.
