Be The Best you you can be Everyone has the potential for greatness. Whether or not one chooses to unlock that potential is up to them. Anyone can tell you to “do your best” or “reach for the stars”, but just being told to do something doesn’t necessarily mean that you are going to do it. Eventually it always comes down to the doer, not the teller. Its easy to be sarcastic about striving for success... saying the effort will not be worth the reward is a lazy cop out. A society like ours that requires near-instant gratification for all actions makes it very easy for someone to just take the easy way out, because many don’t realise that work, over a long period time produces RESULTS. No one ever got anywhere by sitting in their parents basement, playing video games, and burying themselves under bags of chips and mountain dew cans. The most successful people in the world didn’t get that way over night. They got there by putting their nose to the grindstone for years, until the effort paid off. The phrase, “money doesn’t buy happiness” isn’t quite as accurate as it might have been, even 10 years ago. It may be callous, but it’s true, happiness, to at least some degree, requires a little bit of cash... and the most surefire way to make sure you have that cash is good, old fashioned, hard work... Sure there are a few people in the world who have achieved success, seemingly out of nowhere, but I guarantee that in 15 years, if you ask a 16 about “Snooki,” they will reply, “What the hell is a Snooki?” Those are not the people we should be modeling ourselves after. I encourage you to channel Bill Gates, not Pauly D. Eleanor Roosevelt, not Paris Hilton. I hope with this speech, I have motivated you to think about how you want to spend the rest of your life.
