Be yoked together in a Godly marriage today! But you shall go to my father’s house and to my family, and take a wife for my son. Genesis 24:38 NKJV Abraham is at the end of his life. He turns his attention to finding a wife for his son. Abraham makes his servant take an oath not to choose a wife from among the Canaanites. He tells his servant, “The Lord, before whom I walk, will send His angel with you and prosper your way, and you shall take a wife for my son from my family and from my father’s house.” Why was Abraham so insistent that his son not marry a Canaanite woman? Why did Abraham want his son to take a wife from his father’s household? The Lord told Abraham his descendents would number more than the sands of the seashore and the stars in the sky. He told Abraham he would make him a great nation and kings would come from his body. God told Abraham through his son the families of the world would be blessed. Abraham believed the things God told Him. Abraham knew God would do great and mighty things in his son’s life. Abraham knew Isaac would need a godly wife so he could walk uprightly. Abraham knew God would lead Isaac to the helpmate the Lord had chosen for him. God never changes. He is the same yesterday today and tomorrow. The Lord has the same desires and instructions for us He had for Abraham. He wants us to marry within the household of God today. If you are a man the Lord wants you to marry a godly woman today. If you are woman He wants you to marry a godly man who will walk uprightly before Him today. God tells us not to be unequally yoked with unbelievers today. It is not because God does not like unbelievers. He loves them! It is not because we are better than unbelievers. We are not. A yoke is an attachment that is placed on a team of oxen so they can work together. If two oxen yoked together do not pull in the same direction the cart cannot move forward. God wants us to bless the household of God today. The Lord wants us to be a blessing to people who do not know Him today. He wants us to trust Him to bring the man or woman into our lives He has chosen for us. The Lord wants to use us to bring godly children into the world to produce a godly heritage for Him. He wants our children to give glory and honor to Him today. He wants our children to be a blessing to us in our old age. We do not know what great and might things God may have in store for our children. The Lord saved us from death and destruction to serve Him according to His good and perfect will for our lives. God does not want to withhold any good thing from us today. He will not deny us a relationship that will be a blessing to us. He wants us to trust Him with everything. The Lord wants you to trust Him with your marriage today. If you trust Him to bring that special person into your life He will bless you with a Godly heritage. Your marriage can glorify and honor God today and everyday!
