Bear Cub Creates Stir on Bittle Street in Springfield SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) — An unsual sighting on Bittle Street in Springfield Tuesday morning. A bear cub was spotted roaming through the yards and bushes of residents in Springfield. The buzz on Bittle Street was that a bear was on the prowl, right in Barbara Hall’s backyard “I see a baby cub run across the front yard into the backyard and try to go under the fence of the neighbor,” Hall explains. Hungry – but not camera shy – the baby bear was caught on camera and neighbors were caught off-guard, at least one too rattled to go on-camera. “He ran down the street and then he came back into my yard and it was like that little story ‘Three Little Bears.’ He looked at the chairs and this little chair is too soft…” Hall immediately called her mom. “‘Ma, did know there was a bear outside.’ I said ‘What?’ She said ‘A bear, mom,’ so I hit the floor.” Although just a cub, the bigger concern was that it wasn’t alone. Police and representatives froM Thomas J. O’Connor Animal Control and Adoption Center rolled through. It’s best to leave bear tracking to the pros “I’m not gonna follow the bear. Y’all gonna follow the bear. [We are going do it, not you] Y’all gonna follow the bear,” says Gina Rankin of Springfield. “I think you better hop back in that Channel 40 SUV because wherever there is a cub, there’s a mom.” What had the bear so intrigued, willing to roam outside its elements? “It’s trash day, so I think he was looking for food.” The kids were kept indoors, against their natural curious instincts. Hall adds, “They were kind of excited to see the bear. They were excited. I was more afraid than they were.” Authorities say its best to steer clear when you spot a bear and try not to leave and food scraps outdoors
