Beautiful explanation by Ustadh إسماعيل الوحواح Ismail Alwahwah on why Wassim Doureihi refused to answer the question on ABC Lateline regarding ISIS: Many are asking why brother Wassim refused to answer the question that the ABC host insisted on during last nights interview, being: do you condemn the movement of ISIS and its actions? The answer may seem simple and straight-forward for some... Some may say that Hizb ut-Tahrir has a clear and declared opinion on this, so why didnt it seize such an opportunity in the media that may never arise again to state its opinion? Others may say that this was a golden chance for Hizb ut-Tahrir to distance itself from the charge of terrorism by condemning ISIS... While others said that the Hizb has missed the opportunity. But for the one that carries the project for Islam and the Ummah, the matter cannot be dealt with like this. Allow me to reveal some of the Islamic and political pillars in answering such a question at this particular time, place and in front of such questioner. As for the opinion in relation to the ISIS movement, indeed we have an opinion that is based on our shari understanding and the understanding of the political reality. And we have expressed our opinion when the Islamic and political obligation necessitated it. This opinion of ours is not influenced by any local, regional, or international side whatsoever. We also state our opinion directly or through the media in a clear manner and without any hesitation, because it is a matter of deen and trust, if we are correct in our opinion it is from Allah and by his grace, and if we are wrong we are mere humans and ask Allah for forgiveness. But, the current crusader invasion led by America and the previous onslaughts target Islam and Muslims. And America fabricates narratives and seeks justifications to cover up its crimes and real motives. The most favourable of those that America uses in this context are Muslims or those who call themselves as such. As such, when their media throw this question it is to use your opinion to cover up their crimes and justify them to their nations, and to portray themselves as being the saviours. At this point, they would have painted the struggle as they wanted and with whom they wanted it to be portrayed as, and not as a struggle between them and Muslims as a whole, which is the reality and truth, and as it should be and continue to be. Whoever does this has become on the side of the enemies of Islam and Muslims, if he does not know. But for those that know what they are doing, and still give them what they want, then he is a traitor to Allah, his messenger and the believers. Thus, there is a big difference between expressing an opinion to please Allah and to support Islam and advice Muslims, and between expressing it to serve the kuffar and support them and their lies, injustice and killing of Muslims. There is also something else that explains the matter... When our members appear in the media, it is not on their minds at all to defend or promote Hizb ut-Tahrir, for our cause is a much bigger one. Our cause and concern is Islam and Muslims and we are amongst them; whatever is good for them applies to us. It becomes a betrayal, a crime, and a great haram if we favour ourselves, our interests and our well-being at the expense of Islam and Muslims. We may differ with some Muslims, but no matter how great the disagreement is or how small, we will never be of support to a disbeliever over a Muslim. Allegiance is to the absolute haqq; for Allah, his messenger, and to the believers.
